It was established in 2001 as a Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Patras and deals with the acquisition, preservation and study of Science & Technology documenttion. The records are firstly studied and once combined, they are stored or displayed in the museum in order to cintribute to research, education and entertainment.
The objectives of the museum are as follows:
- to disseminate science to a wide range of people.
- to familiarize the public with the progress and recent achievements of science.
- to promote understanding of scientific and technological issues that the public ignores and needs to learn more, thus fascilitating an important educational tool for teaching the history of science and technology at all educational levels, enabling the audience to gain experiences in related matters.
- to cover the lack of technical museums in Greece, mainly in western Greece.
At MST there is a thematic exhibition with title "Telecommunications in our lives", showing the characteristics of telecommunications and their development through three main thematic sections:
- Historical development of telecommunications
- Principles of Physics
- Telecommunications, ancient and modern
and educational programs and tours for Primary, Secondary and Higher Education.
