New Archeological Museum of Patras

The new Archaeological Museum of Patras is at the north entrance of town, on the New National Road Patras - Athens. It is a complex of buildings covering a total area 8.000 sq.m. The front is decorated by a dome, covered with titanium, which is based on a 500 sq.m. tank, connecting the museum with the liquid component and implying the relationship of the city of Patras with the sea. The exhibition is divided into three major themes that occupy respectively the three halls of the museum: the Hall of Private Life, the Hall of Necropolis and the hall of public life.

Patras Museum of Folk and Traditional Arts

The Museum of Folk & Traditional Art was founded in 1977 by the Cultural Center of Patras in order to accommodate objects and activities of modern Greek folklore, and is housed in a building within Skagiopouleiou legacy (Koritsa str. and Mavrokordatou str.). The material exposed concerns both rural activities but also civil life and demonstartes their role in socio-economic life and development of the region.

Founded in 1973 by John and Theodore Meletopoulou Papanagiotou, it is housed in the House of Literature and Art, with exhibits mainly from the war of 1821.

Patras Press Museum

The Press museum is unique in Greece. It features newspapers from 1815 until now and 1300 different titles, contained in 900 volumes from Greece, 1000 journals from 1852 onwards, 67 diaries of the period from 1879 to 1970, rare editions and titles.

Municipal Gallery of Patras

It was founded in 1988 and since 2000 is operating within the frames of Municipal Enterprise of Cultural Development of Patras, with aim to present local art, to provide art education programs through the implementation of exhibitions and parallel events along with educational programs.

Botanical Museum of University of Patras

It belongs to the section of Plant Biology of the Department of Biology, University of Patras, and has approximately 150 000 plant specimens from Greece and other Mediterranean areas. It is a valuable record which contributes greatly to an accurate survey of the Greek Flora.

Zoological Museum of University of Patras

In the Museum displays there is a large number of preservants, or stuffed animals in jars, basically of the Greek fauna, for observation and in order to provide information for visitors and raise awareness on nature conservation. Of course there's always the possibility of access for Greek and foreign scientists to perform research of special interest on the collections of the Department of Animal Biology.

Museum of Science and Technology (MST) University of Patras

It was established in 2001 as a Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Patras and deals with the acquisition, preservation and study of Science & Technology documenttion. The records are firstly studied and once combined, they are stored or displayed in the museum in order to cintribute to research, education and entertainment.

Patras Education Museum

It began its operation in 2007 and it displays historical training records gathered from both regional schools as well as other parts of Greece. This material among other things, includes photographs of school life, school books, maps, objects of the school environment, teaching aids, flags, etc. Also official forms of educational reforms from the 19th century are displayed.

Museum of Glafkos

Parts of the first hydroelectric machines (1926), tools and utilities, memories of old neglected and techniques, obsolete by technological developments. The visitor can witness the origins of energy development in southeastern Europe since the hydroelectric station of Glafkos was probably the first not only in Greece but also in the Balkans.

Housed in the old Municipal Market of Aigio, attributed to the German architect Ernst Ziller and was built in 1890. The building possesses a magnificent architecture and includes a large central atrium framed by the shops in the market that now hosts cultural events.

Municipal History and Folklore Museum of Aigio

Housed in a traditional stone building about two hundred years old, with typical architecture: two-storey, built with stone, with a wall thickness over one meter and large windows. Its construction dates back to 1830 and it used to belong to a wealthy family of raisin merchants and it was transformed to a museum in 1997. Consists of ten rooms that can accommodate a total of remarkable exhibits covering all historical periods and occupations of the rural life of the province: various utensils, looms, furniture, machinery, textile materials and traditional costumes.

Municipal Museum of Kalavryta Holocaust

One of the most historical monuments of the city is the Municipal Museum of the Holocaust. The historical and martyr site was inextricably linked with the events of the occupation and particularly the terrible tragedy of December 13, 1943. Here the residents of the town of Kalavrita experienced and suffered the cruelty of the Nazi atrocities: the misleading concentration site, the brutal separation of families, the horrible confinement of women & children and the violent evacuation.

Kalavrita Site of Sacrifice

One notable monument of the city and a martyr site is the Place of Sacrifice, on the hill of the Holocaust, located east of the town of Kalavrita (500 meters from the center) on the way to the Ski center. There, the men aged 14 years and over, were led by German occupation forces, on 13 December 1943, where they were executed.

Municipal Gallery Konstantinou Fassoy at Kalavrita

The City Council of Kalavrita after the death of Konstantinos Fassos on 9/30/1984, founded the Municipal Gallery, after the donation by his family (wife and daughter Giovani) of 49 paintings. Since 1999 the gallery operates in a hall of kalavrita Agrotiki Bank at street Ethnikis Antistaseos 15, next to the Cultural Center in the central Square.

Memorial of 1821 revolution freedom fighters

On the hill north of the monastery of Agia Lavra, rises a unique monument for the whole nation. It is a memorial of the Revolution of 1821, for those sacrificed for the independence of the Greek nation against the Turks. The unveiling of the monument in its present form took place on March 24, 1971.

Cave of Lakes Museum and Folk Museum at Kleitoria

At village Kastria of Kleitoria municipality where there is the Cave of Lakes, a museum with findings from the exploration of the cave operates, while at Kleitoria there is a Folk Museum, a project of the local cultural association founded in 1989. It presents the traditional agricultural and farm equipment, traditional weavings, local costumes, embroidery, traditional utensils and more.

Chelospilia

8 km from Kleitoria and near Likouria, is one of the oldest villages of Achaia. Here the first rifle shots were fired, for the uprising of the nation on 16 to 17 of March, 1821. At the foot of the mountain Saita, there is a hill with the Statue of Liberty, an 'iron' daughter with broken chains on her hands, hoisting to the sky a sword to commemorate the attack on 18 March 1821.
