One notable monument of the city and a martyr site is the Place of Sacrifice, on the hill of the Holocaust, located east of the town of Kalavrita (500 meters from the center) on the way to the Ski center. There, the men aged 14 years and over, were led by German occupation forces, on 13 December 1943, where they were executed.

Now back to the Holocaust hill, there is a huge cross reminiscent of the horrific crime. The site was carefully selected by the Nazis. The amphitheater slope would not allow anyone to escape. Locals were forced to watch their homes and entire city, burn down, and with them their women and children to be confined in the school building which was also under fire, guarded by fully armed soldiers. The columns surrounding the central area, curry the names of the families of the executed, while in the catacombs, there is an equal number of small candles for the executed families.

It also symbolizes the women of Kalavrita (the mother, sister, grandmother, daughter) who rebuilt the totally destroyed city, with superhuman effort.toposthisias.jpg

Every year on 13th of December there is a memorial taking place in the cathedral of the city and a funeral march to the Place of Sacrifice, where a prayer is said and Memorial Invitational.
