Kleitoria is built on the southeast edge of Achaia, at an altitude of 550 meters on the west side of the valley Aroanios river has a rich history starting from the Middle Ages, continues to Frankish domination and goes to the Nazi’s Troops occupation when (December 1943) destroyed. Today is the seat of the municipality Lefkasios, with ever growing tourism infrastructure. It is located 107 km SE of Patras through Chalandritsa and 130 km SE via Diakopto and Kalavrita.
Worth Seeing
- The Museum of Folk Art, which presents traditional household utensils, farm tools, textiles, etc.
- The Center for Environmental Education Kleitoria (tel 26920-31288). The ancient Arcadian city-state Kleitor (3 km west). Saved Hellenistic and Roman buildings, two bastions of the walls and ruins of the theater.
- The sources of Aoranios River (7 km NE). A fascinating area, where the waters rush through solid rock.
- The arch bridges of the region (Tserchnotabey 1600, in Xerogefyro Filaiika Glavas and Hani in Kastria, 1750).
- The villages Pangrati (11 km N) with the "Pausanias Vine", a vine age 1800 years and Daphne (29 kms SW) with breathtaking views from where the road leads to the lake and the dam of the river Ladon.
- Ancient Paos (about 30 km west), where they found foundations of an ancient building (possibly palace) and the temple of Dioscuri brothers, rectangular towers and a gate.
- Tripotamos village (38 km W), where you will see the ruins of ancient Psofida (sections of walls, buildings, relics and ruins the theater, inscriptions and statues) and a short distance to the Monastery of the Assumption (1817).
